The Copper Coin Thrift Store in Le Mars, Iowa, stands as a meaningful example of how thoughtful construction can support a greater mission. This new retail space is just under 14,000 square feet and was developed with a clear purpose: to create a welcoming, functional thrift store that supports the LeMars Gehlen Catholic School and other faith-based organizations in the Le Mars area.
The project was led from design through final construction under the direction of local LeMars Builder and EPS Authorized Dealer Jeremy Sitzmann of Sitzmann Construction. From start to finish, Jeremy and the local building committee spent 2 years in the planning stage, focused on delivering a durable and efficient retail environment designed to serve both shoppers and volunteers for years to come. The layout was thoughtfully planned to accommodate a high volume of donations, organized merchandise displays, and smooth customer flow, ensuring the store could operate effectively while providing an inviting experience for the community.
This structure was built using Structural Insulated Panels or SIPs manufactured by Energy Panels Structures Inc. in Graettinger, Iowa. Chosen for their durability and energy efficiency, Structural Insulated Panels will provide monthly energy usage savings on utilities.
The new Copper Coin Thrift Store officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 4th, 2025, celebrating the completion of the project and the impact it will have locally. Several committee members were present at the event, joined by an estimated 100 to 150 community members who gathered to tour the new space and support the store’s mission. The strong turnout reflected the community’s enthusiasm and shared commitment to giving back.
More than just a retail building, the Copper Coin Thrift Store represents a partnership between strong private donations, local church leadership, and the Le Mars community, one that transforms a construction project into a lasting source of support for education and charitable outreach.
The project was one of a select group chosen in 2025 to be a part of the EPS Cares Program. This program supports charitable building causes like Copper Coin. EPS District Sales Manager – Kevin Zadow, along with Vice President of Sales and Marketing – Mike Mattison, were on hand at the ribbon-cutting event and were pleased to present a check for $6,000.00 to the leadership committee.
