About EPS

Energy Panel Structures was established in 1981 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the
MacArthur Company
of St. Paul, MN.

MacArthur Company, an 80 year old private firm with a 4A1 Dun & Bradstreet rating, has 20 warehouses in the western United States specializing in the distribution of roofing and insulation products.

Energy Panel Structures was started in Albert Lea, MN. After three expansions the company moved in 1988 to Graettinger, IA to a new 40,000 square foot plant designed specifically for the manufacture of insulated panels. Since the move to Graettinger, EPS has expanded three times, adding 3,000 square feet for a door manufacturing facility and another 7,000 square feet to increase the finished goods storage capacity. Our latest expansion of 30,000 square feet to our main manufacturing space brings the total facility to 110,000 square feet on an 8-acre tract.

The company was originally begun to manufacture insulated wall panels for the agricultural market. Since that time, EPS has diversified into the commercial/industrial markets.

Energy Panel Structures manufactures insulated panels and room liners that have a sandwich construction. The core of each panel is rigid foam insulation with facings laminated to both sides of the foam, using a moisture cure urethane adhesive. Energy Panel Structures offers various exterior and interior facings on the panels, including aluminum (in various colors), embossed steel (in various colors), fiberglass reinforced plastic or finished in the field.

  • Structural insulated panel (Solid Core) buildings feature foam core wall panels and wood truss systems for small and medium size rural buildings.  Post frame packages for commercial and agricultural use
  • Commercial industrial building packages and panelized products

  • Complete dairy facilities
  • Equestrian arenas and complete stable packages
  • Steel frame building packages can utilize Energy-Lok steel faced EPS foam core panels

EPS Buildings Completes Miracle of Birth/FFA Chapter House
Company donates materials and effort to worthy cause

Lawrence, Kansas, Wednesday, October 04, 2006 - The National Frame Builders Association (NFBA) is proud to announce that EPS Buildings of Graettinger, Iowa successfully completed an important project on worthy of public note:  The Miracle of Birth/FFA Chapter House.

The project was supported by contributions from the FFA, EPS Buildings and a dozen other project partners.  EPS Buildings was given less than six months to complete the entire project.

FFA needed a facility where animals could give live birth at the Minnesota State Fair.  The local FFA chapter also needed a new chapter meeting house.  EPS Buildings met the challenge by designing and building an 84' wide x 200' long, 14' tall post-frame building, with an 80’ wide x 40’ long, 12’ high R-33 Solid Core ( Structural Insulated Panels-SIPS) wing.

The building had to be constructed to meet IBS Code 50 PSF ground snow loads, and a 90 mph wind load.  The building was adorned with Power Vented Cupolas, a side covered porch, multiple split sliding doors, and Glacier Anchor Energy Designed Footings.  The new building featured barn red steel sidewalls with a mortarless brick wainscot, and solar collectors.

David Huinker of FFA commented, "EPS was the most influential company to get this project off the ground.  We appreciate their work coordinating this project, and their donation of time and materials."

Chris Spaeth, Director of Sales and Marketing for EPS Buildings, added "The combination of post-frame and structural insulated panels offered the look and speed we needed.  Post-frame and structural panels are much quicker to erect than other types of construction.  They are also very energy-efficient, which will provide long-term value in the form of reduced operating expenses.”
